Every July, the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Defense, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Military Saves, and other consumer advocacy and military support organizations join for Military Consumer Protection Month in an effort to provide military consumers with resources about managing their money. 2020 has presented brand new challenges and this year, Lone Star Legal Aid joins Military Consumer Protection Month by focusing on consumer issues related to COVID-19.
Con artists, scammers, and imposters all pay attention to current events to best plan their next bank deposit. Scammers are ready to exploit people’s concerns about the virus. As of June 30, consumers have submitted more than 115,000 reports of fraud related to COVID-19, resulting in reported losses of more than $74 million, according to the FTC.
This month, Lone Star Legal Aid will engage with its military and veteran communities via virtual outreach and story sharing. Subscribe to our blog at http://www.lonestarlegal.org and receive email updates, connect with us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/LoneStarLegalAid), Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/lonestarlegalaid/), and Twitter (https://twitter.com/LStarLegal), and share our posts, videos, and tips.
